The food group Nestlé has announced its intention to remove artificial food colorings from all of its products worldwide by the end of 2026. This decision would make the company the first major company in the sector to completely eliminate these additives globally.
This trend comes amid increasing pressure on the food industry, which is being pushed to offer products deemed healthier by consumers and health authorities. Concerns about food ingredients have intensified in recent years, particularly with changing eating habits and the rise of new medical approaches to weight loss.
According to Stefan Palzer, Nestlé's Chief Technology Officer, this transition will cover the group's entire global portfolio. He specified that the company's products will be completely free of artificial colors by the end of the year, thus extending a strategy already underway in certain markets, particularly in the United States.
Nestlé had already begun removing these additives from several product lines, but the announced measure goes much further by setting a global and uniform target. This decision is part of a broader trend in the food industry, where manufacturers and distributors are seeking to reduce the use of ingredients such as synthetic colors and certain sweeteners.
The transition represents a significant industrial undertaking for the Swiss group, which will have to adapt some of its recipes and production lines worldwide. It also reflects evolving consumer expectations, with consumers increasingly attentive to the composition of food products.
With this announcement, Nestlé intends to position itself as a pioneer among major food groups on the issue of artificial additives, in an environment where transparency and nutritional quality are becoming major competitive issues.
