Meta launches paid subscriptions on Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp

The American tech giant Meta has launched new paid subscription offers for its main apps, marking a significant step in its efforts to diversify its revenue streams beyond advertising. Users can now subscribe to premium versions of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus subscriptions are offered at $3,99 per month and provide access to additional tools, including advanced analytics and enhanced audience visibility. WhatsApp Plus, priced at $2,99 per month, focuses more on personalization with exclusive themes, ringtones, and stickers.

Meta is looking for new sources of revenue

According to Naomi Gleit, head of product at Meta, the group ultimately aims to consolidate these various offerings into a comprehensive package called “Meta One.” This development comes as the company invests heavily in artificial intelligence and seeks to reassure financial markets about its ability to generate new revenue.

The group led by Mark Zuckerberg plans to dedicate more than $125 billion this year to its AI-related infrastructure, particularly in data centers. The announcement of these new offerings was well received on Wall Street, where Meta's stock rose after their launch.

Meta had already introduced paid, ad-free versions of Facebook and Instagram in Europe in order to comply with European rules on the protection of personal data.
