Fuels: TotalEnergies extends price cap until April 7

Motorists get another week of respite. TotalEnergies announced on Tuesday, March 31, the extension until Tuesday, April 7, of its fuel price cap scheme at its stations in France, a measure that was due to end this Tuesday.

The stated objective is: "to continue to protect its customers in France for the Easter weekend," at a time when departures are being prepared and the slightest variation on the illuminated sign turns into a small national anxiety.

The goodwill gesture, without touching the tax pump

In detail, the group is maintaining its price caps: gasoline at €1,99 per liter and diesel at €2,09. These prices will apply at 3,300 TotalEnergies stations in mainland France, as they have since the mechanism was launched on March 12. In the background, the old drivers of pump prices continue to operate: oil prices, the euro-dollar exchange rate, refining margins… and the heavy, omnipresent tax burden, which the company implicitly acknowledges by emphasizing its focus on distribution, not taxes.

The fact remains that this type of announcement never comes by chance. The debate over fuel costs resurfaces regularly, fueled by drivers' expectations and political pressure to obtain concessions when bills rise. TotalEnergies has previously capped prices at €1,99, proving that in tense times, communication and commerce often go hand in hand… and that the question of price never disappears from dashboards for long.
