Actress Eye Haïdara has been chosen to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 79th Cannes Film Festival. With this appointment, Eye Haïdara succeeds Laurent Lafitte, who held the same role at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Beyond the nomination of Eye Haïdara, the 2026 Cannes Film Festival is already taking shape. The Cannes Film Festival has announced that Peter Jackson will receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the opening ceremony on May 12. Barbra Streisand is to be honored during this 79th edition, while Park Chan-wook has already been announced as president of the jury.
