Christian Bujeau died on Monday at the age of 81. The actor passed away in the morning in his home department of Charente-Maritime. No further details have been released regarding the circumstances of his death.  

Jean-Pierre Goulard, the dentist who became a cult figure

Born on October 14, 1944 in Charron, Christian Bujeau was revealed to the general public in 1993 in The Visitors, by Jean-Marie Poiré. In it, he played Jean-Pierre Goulard, a dentist and husband of Béatrice, played by Valérie Lemercier. The film attracted approximately 13 million viewers to theaters and established his character as one of the most recognizable faces in 1990s French comedy. He reprised this role in The Corridors of Time: The Visitors II, released in 1998. In the saga, Jean-Pierre Goulard remains the overwhelmed witness to the chaos caused by Jacquouille and Godefroy de Montmirail, two characters who emerged from the Middle Ages into his bourgeois daily life.  

The fencing master of Kaamelott

For another generation of spectators, Christian Bujeau will also remain the fencing master of KaamelottIn Alexandre Astier's series, he played the trainer tasked with preparing King Arthur for combat. His character, authoritarian, obsessed with hygiene, and formidable in his repartee, became one of the series' most memorable supporting roles. He had also appeared in Hero Corp, created by Simon Astier, as well as in several French series and television films, including H, Julie lescaut, Josephine guardian angel, Under the sun et Louis the Antique Dealer

Trained at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique, where he won second prize in comedy, Christian Bujeau initially built his career on stage. He was a member of the Renaud-Barrault company at the Théâtre de l'Odéon and worked under the direction of directors such as Bernard Murat, Jean-Claude Brialy, and Robert Manuel. A stage, film, and television actor, he was also a director, stuntman, and drama teacher at the Jean Périmony school. His career encompassed popular comedy, classical theater, vaudeville, television, and mentoring young actors.  

A long, discreet and popular career

In cinema, Christian Bujeau had notably starred in Pedal fresh, La Truth if I lie! 2, Alibi.com, Le Back of the hero et InseparableIn 2024, he had still appeared in the TV movie On the slabbroadcast on France 2.  

His death means the disappearance of a familiar, immediately identifiable supporting actor whose career spanned more than 50 years of theatre, film and television.
