Without an identity or allies, Spider-Man faces New York alone.

Five years after the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland takes up the suit of the spider-man again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released in France on July 29, a fourth solo installment directed by Destin Daniel Cretton which opens a whole new chapter for Peter Parker.

A hero erased from the memory of all his loved ones

At the end of the previous film, a spell cast by Doctor Strange erased Peter Parker from the memory of the entire world, including his girlfriend MJ, played by Zendaya, and his best friend Ned, played by Jacob Batalon. With Aunt May having passed away in the meantime, Peter finds himself more alone than ever, without friends, without family, and without the technological support of Tony Stark, who has become a full-time vigilante protecting New York.

Graduates of MIT, Ned and MJ return to live in New York and rebuild their lives far from Peter, who now observes them from afar. This growing solitude is accompanied by an unexpected physical mutation: his DNA begins to change, his arachnid abilities seeming to escape his control.

A new invisible threat and an expanded cast

The film introduces a cast of new characters to the franchise, notably Sadie Sink, as well as the return of Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Running for 2 hours and 25 minutes, the film explores whether Peter's successive losses will turn him into a cold and detached person, or instead strengthen his resolve to embrace the responsibility that comes with his powers.

The film marks a turning point in the tone of the trilogy starring Tom Holland, who moves away from the carefree nature of his early days, surrounded by Iron Man and his friends, to move closer to the isolation traditionally associated with the character in previous cinematic incarnations.
