Roschdy Zem will head the jury of the Deauville Film Festival in September

The Deauville American Film Festival has chosen Roschdy Zem to preside over the jury for its 52nd edition, which will take place from September 4 to 13, 2026. The French actor and director succeeds Golshifteh Farahani, who held the position last year during an edition won by The Plague.

A key figure in French cinema for over thirty years, Roschdy Zem has built a career spanning both arthouse films and mainstream productions. He was awarded the César for Best Actor in 2020 for Roubaix, a lightHe has also distinguished himself behind the camera as a director and screenwriter.

A career marked by strong roles

Rising to prominence in the early 1990s, the actor has appeared in over eighty films. Over the years, he has established himself in roles as police officers, tormented characters, and figures grappling with questions of identity and legacy. His career has led him to work with directors such as André Téchiné, Arnaud Desplechin, Xavier Beauvois, and Rebecca Zlotowski.

Born to Moroccan parents and raised in the Paris region, Roschdy Zem discovered theatre as an adult before establishing himself as one of the most acclaimed actors in French cinema. He recently starred in 13 days, 13 nights, dedicated to the evacuation of the French embassy in Kabul during the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan.
