New York is back on top. The Knicks won the 2026 NBA title last night, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the Finals in San Antonio. This victory gives them a 4-1 series lead and their third title in franchise history, their first since 1973.

Brunson carries New York to the very end

Jalen Brunson played the game of his life at the most important moment: 45 points, best total of the match, and a title of Finals MVPHe led the Knicks' offense on what had been a long and difficult night, before turning the game around in the final minutes.

The Knicks turned the game around again

San Antonio controlled the game for much of the game. The Spurs built a lead of as many as 16 points in the second quarter and another 15 points in the third. New York gradually chipped away at the lead, then took their first lead with 3:40 remaining. The Knicks won the final quarter 29-18.

The lieutenants answered the call.

Behind Brunson, Mikal Bridges added 14 points, Josh Hart finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and OG Anunoby scored 11 points. Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson each grabbed 10 rebounds in a game where New York had to overcome poor shooting.

Harper and Wembanyama were not enough

For the Spurs, Dylan Harper led San Antonio with 25 points. Victor Wembanyama tallied 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks. The Spurs had several opportunities to regain control in crunch time, but New York executed better in the final possessions.

A winning series in boss fashion

The Knicks closed out the Finals in five games: wins of 105-95 and 105-104 in San Antonio, a 115-111 loss in New York, a 107-106 victory at Madison Square Garden after a historic 29-point comeback, and then a 94-90 win for the title. Game 4 will forever be remembered as the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.

New York ends 53-year wait

The Knicks' last title dated back to 1973. With this victory, the New York franchise adds a third banner to its NBA record. Their 2026 campaign ends with a clear domination: only three losses throughout the playoffs and an NBA record of nine consecutive road wins in a single postseason.
