Floyd Mayweather announces his intention to resume professional fighting

Former American world champion Floyd Mayweather announced Friday his intention to return to the ring for more professional fights. In a statement released by CSI Sports and the Fight Sports platform, the 48-year-old boxer asserted that he "still has what it takes to achieve new records."

Undefeated in 50 fights, Mayweather retired in 2017 after his victory against Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. He is scheduled to face his compatriot Mike Tyson in an exhibition match in the spring of 2026, the date and location of which are yet to be determined.

A return in line with recent exhibitions

Since his official retirement from professional competition, the American has participated in several exhibitions, notably in the United States, Japan, and Mexico. His upcoming bout with Tyson, aged 59, is a continuation of this, even though Mayweather has also mentioned a professional fight after this event.

Crowned champion in several weight classes during his career, which began in 1996, Mayweather was named "Fighter of the 21st Century" by The Ring magazine earlier this year. His return comes at a time when other boxing legends, such as Manny Pacquiao, have recently returned to professional competition.
