Automotive: Chinese company Chery wants to strengthen its production in Europe

Chinese automaker Chery is seeking to accelerate its industrial expansion in Europe by increasing its production capacity. The group prioritizes partnerships with local players in order to utilize existing factories rather than building new facilities.

This strategy aims to meet a rapidly growing demand since its arrival on the European market in 2023. Chery sold more than 120,000 vehicles in Europe last year, compared to a much lower level the previous year, confirming its rapid progress on the continent.

An expansion hampered by European constraints

The group aims to adapt its production to local requirements, particularly in light of tariffs applied to Chinese electric vehicles and local content regulations. A ramp-up of its industrial capacity is deemed necessary to support its commercial ambitions.

Chery has already established its first plant in Spain, with a production target of 200,000 vehicles per year by 2029. Other projects are under consideration, including in France, as the manufacturer continues to expand its brands in key European markets.
