The petition is scheduled to be examined on Tuesday at 21 p.m. The committee must first decide on its admissibility before any parliamentary debate can be held. The rapporteur's role will be to present the legal and political aspects of the case to the committee members.
A sensitive issue regarding the use of weapons by police officers
The proposal to create a presumption of self-defense for police officers and gendarmes has sparked strong divisions. Its supporters believe it would strengthen the legal protection of officers facing dangerous situations. Its opponents, on the other hand, fear a weakening of oversight regarding the use of force.
Ugo Bernalicis, a member of the Law Committee and a specialist in police and justice issues within La France Insoumise (LFI), has consistently opposed this type of measure. The debate scheduled for Tuesday is therefore expected to be closely followed between the majority, the right wing, the National Rally, and the left-wing groups.
