Haute-Garonne: a deer saved from drowning in a canal

On Monday, August 18, firefighters from Haute-Garonne conducted an unusual intervention in Martres-Tolosane, near Toulouse. A roe deer, which had fallen into the Palaminy Canal, was struggling without being able to get back onto the bank and was in danger of drowning. Alerted, eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene, including specialists in water rescue and animal risk management. Thanks to their intervention, the animal was able to be extracted safely before being released into its natural environment. The incident serves as a reminder that this type of accident is far from exceptional: in rural areas, roe deer and wild boar regularly find themselves trapped in canals and rivers, requiring emergency services to prevent a fatal outcome.
