600 condoms sent to MPs - the latest provocation from a Lodève resident

Parliamentarians received a strange surprise this political season. On September 11, a package containing 600 condoms was sent to the National Assembly by Pierre Guiraud, better known by his pseudonym "Pierrot le Zygo" on social media. This Lodois resident, who is no stranger to provocative symbolic actions, said he wanted to prevent MPs from "repeating themselves," denouncing what he perceived as the deterioration in the level of parliamentary debates. In a statement relayed by ICI Hérault, the man was particularly harsh on the attitude of elected officials: "We've gone from the level to the gutter," he said, referring to MPs who insult each other, shout at each other, or refuse to shake hands. He also criticized the substance of the discussions, citing a jumble of polarizing remarks about the police, immigration, and even meat.

A political provocateur already known

This isn't Pierre Guiraud's first attempt. Inspired by Coluche, he ran as an atypical candidate in the 2012 legislative elections in Hérault. In 2019, he sent a pair of Dalton pajamas to Patrick Balkany, who was incarcerated at La Santé prison. Three years earlier, he distinguished himself by symbolically "canning" "the last breaths of socialism" in front of the former PS headquarters on Rue de Solférino in Paris. With this new, unusual mailing, he claims to want to raise awareness of what he considers a drift in democratic functioning. "It's not all the deputies," he specifies, "but a good portion of them. And it's pathetic," he concludes. A gesture that should not go unnoticed in an already tense parliamentary climate.
