Mobile internet: Morocco first in Africa and 39th worldwide according to the Speedtest Global Index

Morocco has risen to first place in Africa for mobile internet speed, according to the latest Speedtest Global Index ranking. With an average speed of 124,32 Mbps, the Kingdom now occupies 39th position globally, confirming the progress of its digital infrastructure.

The index is based on millions of tests conducted by users in real-world conditions, at various times and locations. It thus provides a concrete measure of mobile network performance. This advancement reflects the increasing investment in telecommunications and the continuous improvement of service quality.

This performance comes amid an accelerated rollout of next-generation networks, notably marked by the launch of 5G last November. This development has led to increased data speeds, reduced latency, and improved stability of mobile connections across the country.

Across Africa, the gap is significant. South Africa comes in second with an average speed of 65,70 Mbps, followed by Tunisia. Algeria and Kenya complete the continental top five, illustrating Morocco's clear lead in the mobile broadband segment.

Globally, the top spots remain dominated by Gulf countries. The United Arab Emirates leads the ranking with 686,12 Mbps, ahead of Qatar (593,34 Mbps), Kuwait, and Bahrain. Bulgaria ranks fifth with 277,97 Mbps, the only European representative in the top group. This configuration reflects a shift in the center of gravity of mobile broadband towards countries that have made connectivity a strategic focus for development and competitiveness.
