A 50-year-old French father and his two sons, aged five and seven, were rescued Friday morning after drifting for more than 16 hours off the coast of Koh Samui, Thailand. Their jet ski had capsized shortly after they left the tourist island in the Gulf of Thailand.
Found around 10 a.m., the three Frenchmen were exhausted and had swallowed a significant amount of seawater. They were taken to the hospital for examination but were able to leave shortly after being admitted.
The circumstances of the accident are still being determined
The father had rented the jet ski around 17 p.m. on Thursday. Worried when the family didn't return at the agreed time, the rental company alerted emergency services and local authorities. According to initial reports, the jet ski capsized after only about fifteen minutes of riding.
Authorities are now investigating the cause of the accident. The father described himself as an experienced jet ski driver, while the rental company claims the family left the designated area. Footage of the rescue shows the jet ski almost completely submerged, with one of the children on the exposed section and his father floating nearby. All were wearing life jackets.
