A violent fire ravaged a building overnight in Thusis, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. The building housed a restaurant and several apartments. Five people are currently missing, while eight others were injured.
The cantonal police were alerted shortly after midnight. Fourteen occupants managed to escape the burning building before it was completely destroyed. Among them, two people were seriously injured, two others sustained moderate injuries, and four suffered minor injuries.
Significant research undertaken
Rescue efforts are continuing to find the five people whose whereabouts remain unknown to authorities. The state of the building, completely destroyed by fire, could complicate their efforts. No final death toll has yet been released.
The circumstances surrounding the fire remain unknown at this stage. An investigation will determine the cause of the blaze and the conditions under which the occupants were able to evacuate the premises. Local authorities are expected to provide further information later today.
