A serious train accident occurred Sunday evening in Andalusia, southern Spain, when a high-speed train derailed and collided with a second train traveling on the adjacent track, Spanish police and emergency services confirmed. The accident, which took place near the town of Adamuz in the province of Cordoba, resulted in numerous casualties, and passengers remain trapped inside damaged carriages.
Around midnight, preliminary reports indicated at least 21 people killed, while rescue operations continued and passengers were still trapped in carriages.

According to Spanish railway authorities, the first train involved, an Iryo train traveling from Malaga to Madrid, derailed shortly after its evening departure, crossing into the opposite track and colliding with a second train traveling between Madrid and Huelva. This collision caused both trains to derail.
The Guardia Civil, the police force responsible for security on the railways, confirmed that several people lost their lives and that numerous injured were treated by Andalusian emergency services. Initial reports varied among media outlets, with some reporting between five and seven confirmed deaths.
Authorities immediately suspended rail traffic between Madrid and Andalusia and deployed significant rescue resources, including mobile medical units and emergency support vehicles. According to witnesses and journalists at the scene, some passengers were evacuated from the wrecked trains while others waited to be freed by specialized teams.
